En Passant (the chess series)
En Passant (the chess series)
En Passant, or “in passing”, refers to a capture move by a pawn in its fifth rank. In this series it is used as a play on words, making reference to the impermanence of material things, which includes the mountains of obsolete devices that mark our technological advances. I’m using chess to illustrate a cultural war between human interaction with artificial intelligence. In particular, I make reference to a game played by Garry Kasparov vs the IBM computer Deep Blue.
